Choosing a Web Host
If you are looking to develop a successful website that would be different from the competition you came to the right place. What you will find on webhostingcourt.com is a complete plan to develop your website from scratch and building the base very strong! In the previous article I shared my tips on choosing the right domain name for your website. In this article I will explain the next step; choosing a web host. Over the years I have developed more than 40 websites, and along the way I learned so much of the importance of a professional web hosting company. My first website was called 3pich.com which was a non-English entertainment source. At the time the web hosting industry wasn’t that big and there weren’t that many good companies out there. After talking to friends that had some experience in the web development business I found a decent company with big and small customers and actually went to their office and negotiated a good price; some of you may be laughing :D but at that time, it wasn’t so weird to do stuff offline for a small web hosting contract as it is now! Well, that was then and it’s in no way similar to how the process goes today. You have many sources to help you choose a decent hosting company, and it is way more affordable.
Mostly my trouble with web hosting providers had been over the bandwidth issue and CPU usage (which not that many of hosting providers explain before selling you the product). When your website gets popular and has more traffic that’s when you need to be worried about how your web host performs. 3pich.com at some point was consuming around 8 GB of bandwidth per day! That was way higher than what my web host expected, so without any notice they kicked me out!!! And that still happens with smaller web hosting companies. So, what you need to do is to make sure you are using the best company out there that won’t just kick you out. You will lose so much visitors and loyal customers if your website is down for a long time. Let me just list some of the trustworthy companies I have done business with over the years. Godaddy, hostgator, hostmonster, bluehost, yahoo, and currently testing some more!
My most successful website so far is a free image hosting service and eats huge amount of bandwidth, sometimes up to 70GB/day! So if you are planning to run a website like that just read on or contact me directly.
Here are some facts about web hosts: Unlimited doesn’t really mean unlimited. This is where the CPU issue comes in. If you are sending so many visitors at the same time and their servers get a big load of traffic in a short period of time, it might cause the server to crash. If this happens a lot they might ask you to leave because of excessive CPU usage! That’s why you always need to read the terms of service of any company you are about to sign a contract; and yes, by buying a webhosting account you are signing a long and boring agreement. You need to check and find other websites hosted by the same company to see their uptime status and speed. (I will explain how to check what webhosting company is being used on a particular website.) Check for the features provided and see if it matches what you will be using on your website. Find out if they have a good support team, it is extremely important and you should test this before buying anything. If available, test run their Control Panel. Most of the web hosts have a 30-day money back guarantee. My recommendation is to register your domain in a separate account just for domains, so when it comes to the time that you want to use the money back policy you wouldn’t have to leave your domain name on the hosting provider’s account. The cost of registering the domain name is non-refundable anywhere you buy it. Keep that in mind, places that give you a free domain name will charge you much more than the usual price if you discontinue your web hosting service!
I will explain step by step of the process on how I start a new website. Subscribe to the RSS feed to get informed about the next article.
